What are the most common symptoms of bruxism? Bruxism is a common, yet often hidden sleep disorder characterized by grinding or gnashing your teeth while unconscious, and often done while asleep. Treating bruxism can be done fairly easily with night guards or bite plates, but the difficult task is determining if you even suffer from it at all.

If you are currently under the effects of bruxism, the signs and symptoms may have already begun to appear. The best way to know is to check your mouth yourself and determine if anything looks irregular or abnormal. Check your teeth to ensure they are at their normal length and do not appear worn down. Typically, individuals with bruxism may display teeth that appear dull or flat.

Another common sign of bruxism is the prevalence of pains or aches when you awake in the morning. If you notice an uptick in tooth sensitivity, or if your teeth feel sore to the touch, visit your dentist to check for bruxism. Other common symptoms of bruxism include the appearance of a TMJ disorder, facial pain, earaches, and cheek tissue damage.
